Irony of law and culture

The link will likely work for only a day, but Gary Varvel's cartoon on the inability for Avon H.S. to have a prayer at this years commencment shows the irony in the potential lawsuit that prompted school administrators to yank the prayer.

Another bit of irony: if a student decides to say a prayer on his/her own at the graduation ceremony, that is protected by the same 1st Amendment that prevents the school sponsored prayer at the same ceremony.

Isn't law fun?

EDIT: upon further reading, the Avon H.S. claims that the school doesn't sponsor the prayer, that the students have always initiated it. The school simply lists the prayer in the program to honor the students' wishes. Ah, that is the key! Next time, lack of documentation will be your friend.
